Land Registry reveals house prices in England and Wales are beginning to drop

Land Registry figures for April show the average price of a house in England and Wales now stands at £183,626 - a decrease from last month’s figure of £184,798.

Prices in the West Midlands fell most significantly, down 1.2 per cent from last month.

The East Midlands experienced a 0.7 per cent monthly decrease.

London house prices continue to rise, but at a slower rate of 6.8 per cent compared to 10.5 per cent the previous month.

The figures show that house prices across England and Wales have only risen by almost £5,000 since April 2007.

A detached house in England and Wales now costs an average of £275,746 and semi-detached homes cost £172,861, while the average price of terraced homes stands at £144,403.
